Support Resources Look Good ... Feel Better: A program that helps cancer patients improve their appearance and self-image by teaching them hand-on beauty techniques that overcome the appearance-related side effects of cancer treatments. Chemotherapy and supportive care is also offered. Patients can receive state of the art therapy right here in Person County. Contact: Outpatient Clinic Nurse at (336) 503-5776 Road To Recovery: Trained volunteer drivers furnish transportation for cancer patients to local and regional hospitals for treatment when family and other appropriate resources are not available. Contact: American Cancer Society at 1-800-282-4941 Cancer Support Groups: This group is for individuals diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers. The meetings are held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church every third Tuesday from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Department of Social Services: Social Services can assist patients with food, utility bills, emergency medications, placement services, and in-home services. If the cancer patient is a Medicaid recipient, he/she could be eligible for other services. Volunteer breast cancer survivors provide information and support to these individuals and their caregivers. Contact: Clinical Nursing Supervisor, Person County Health Department at (336) 597-2204 Hospice: A Special kind of care for terminally ill people and their caregivers that treats the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs in the patients home or in a home-like setting. Contact: Home Health and Hospice of Person County at (336) 597-2542 Breast & Cervical Cancer Control Program: Free mammograms and other women's cancer screenings are available to qualifying women in Person County. They must be between the ages of 50-64, on a limited income. They must not have Medicaid, Medicare, or private health insurance.
